The Mission of Oakbrook Middle School is to educate students to become proficient, responsible and caring citizens by creating a nurturing environment where staff, parents and community work together to provide challenges and opportunities for students to reach their maximum potential.

Vision Statement: “All children will be engaged in the learning process and challenged to meet their highest potential in an environment where relationships, rigor, and relevance are emphasized.”
Summer Reading
It is strongly recommended that rising high school students take part in the Summer Reading Program for Dorchester School District Two. The only required assignments are for those students who will be enrolled in the courses attached to this document. All other students in Dorchester District Two are urged to participate in recommended reading on the pages immediately following. There are additional titles listed even for the classes that have required reading to offer other opportunities for reading, if desired.

Although participation is not required, it is strongly recommended that rising sixth, seventh, and eighth
grade students take part in the Summer Reading Program for Dorchester School District Two. Please check with your child's teacher to see if any summer reading is required.  You can find the middle school Summer Reading Program here.

MINDSTORMS Robotics Camp @ The Citadel
This summer, take part in an innovative robotics camp in order to advance your engineering, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills!  This weeklong day camp is designed to be fun, engaging, and hands-on.  Led by qualified educators, this exciting program is being offered for students entering grades 6 and 7 (currently in grades 5 & 6).  We thank Boeing for helping to make the program possible. 

Dates:  June 24-28, 2013
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: The Citadel, Charleston, SC
Cost: $200.00 (includes daily refeshments and camp t-shirts!) A limited number of fee waivers are avialable.

Online Summer Enrichment

We are excited to announce the return of Online Summer Exploration (OSE)!  OSE provides the opportunity for students to further explore topics in Math and English Language Arts.  An added benefit is the prevention of “summer learning loss”.  OSE provides the convience of learning at home via any internet accessible computer.

ALEKS      

  • Students complete self-adjusting learning paths in Mathematics.
  • ALEKS will be available from June 10ththrough August 2nd.
  • Cost is $22.50, payable online through the District (a 50% discount from retail consumer cost).

CompassLearning Odyssey 

  • Students can complete standards-based learning paths in Math and English Language Arts.
  • Compass content will be available from       June 5th through August 2nd.
  • Cost is free.

To receive maximum benefits from the programs, the student should average two hours a week over the 8 week program.  Middle school students that complete 16 hours of Compass during the programs dates will be entered to win one of the following prizes: A Samsung Chromebook or one of 5 iPod Touches!

Certified teachers will electronically monitor student progress and communicate progress with parents by email.

Participation in the OSE is voluntary.  Participation has no impact upon promotion, retention, or placement.

iTeams Summer Camp
The SC Governor’s School for Math & Science will be offering an iTeams camp this summer at OMS.  Click here for a flyer along with a student application.  SCGSSM would prefer students to register online; however, a paper application is also attached.  This is for any current 6th and 7th graders in our district.  Students can apply online OR via paper application returned to school.  Application deadline is April 22, 2013.
